For my project I interned as a school counselor at Millcreek Jr. High School. The primary role of a school counselor is to help students be excited about school and successful. To help achieve this, one of my roles was tracking students. This involved meeting with students who were failing where they told me academic and personal reasons why they weren’t doing well and then together we developed a plan for how they could do better. I was also involved with planning events such as 7th grade orientation, career day, and lunch time activities. School counselors also work with data often. I learned how to use the program Encore to complete registration forms for every student, update learning plans for students, and input surveys as well as interpreting those results. In addition to these things, I also befriended and got to know some of the students really well which was my favorite part of the internship.
